Clearing Clutter – Discover the Top 5 Ways to De-Garbage your Garage
Clearing Clutter isn’t easy because clutter has an amazing way of multiplying itself, don’t you think? I once leafed through a pre-Christmas gift newsletter and a full 50 percent of the stuff in it weren’t really needed, but can be considered as luxury, “convenience” items that when brought into your life would draw other junk items. Among other gems, there was a humungous ugly thing of wood and plastic that is supposed to be a cookbook holder – probably useful – but it would be difficult to clean and take a place to store (not to mention that your favourite cookbook probably wouldn’t fit in it!). The multiplication of junk is so subtle, and so easily justified – as you acquire something, you need a rack for it, an area for it, and them some more junk so that you can use it more effectively, and so on. The need for clearing clutter has never been greater than it is today.
The garage is a perfect example. As soon as we make our way through the pavement or yard in a straight manner, it’s high time to walk over to the garage and take a firm, de-cluttering look at it. To most of us, the garage serves as our enclosed junkyard – sort of a giant seasoning cellar for our debatable possessions. Yet, believe it or not, the garage is the first, most and last used area in a home. We leave from it to town or work or the yard, and return through it from town or work or the yard, often with arms loaded with stuff, both going and coming. A garage is a very location to be kept tidy and in useful condition.
Clearing clutter in the garage doesn’t cost much (in fact less). For instance, three 9-foot 2x12s and a few used blocks can offer convenience, safety, and order in the form of instant storage shelves for things that are used a lot.
Here are the top 5 ways that will surely help:
1. Store anything that is light by hanging it as high as you can, while still reachable. This will keep stuff out of the stumbling-over path, yet is readily accessible.
2. Buy, find, or create a wall-hang cabinet (if possible, 6 to 7 feet tall) to stock paint, small hand tools, lawn chemicals and the like. Concealing things that must be stored in the garage has physical and emotional advantages!
3. If you want to hang frequently or mount used hand tools (or put them in display for friends who borrow), the practical, smart and economical way is to put up a 4×8 foot piece of quarter-inch pegboard on the wall (very much like the ones you see in store displays). This is relatively easy to do, and a variety of peg hardware is readily available.
4. Be sure you can see! A lot of garages are poorly lighted, which gives off the ambiance of a mine shaft instead of part of a house. The wiring will normally suffice; just replace the incandescent fixtures to fluorescent tube lights. Doing this will make the garage cheaper, safer and look better.
5. Seal and prepare the floor if it is concrete and has been down for about 30 days. This will make it easy and fast to maintain and improve the feel and look of the garage.
There is no redeeming way to store and better organize clutter! Clearing clutter in your garage will make your life much easier. Give unneeded stuff to someone for whom it won’t be junk or throw it out. You’ll bless yourself for getting rid of it!
